Blencathra (via Sharp Edge - August 2013)
WARNING
Please take care when walking the terrain described on this page.
Having walked Helvellyn via Striding Edge earlier in the day and finishing quite early and with the weather forecast being good, I decided to stay in the area a little longer and walk Sharp Edge from Threlkeld.
Sharp Edge is a knife-edged arete leading up Blencathra's eastern edge. It is perfectly safe to ascend if you treat it with respect. As with all the aretes in the area, you can descend off the summit to a safer path but you still have to be careful. You should always put safety first and is the utmost priority when walking but in my opinion, what is the point in walking an arete and staying off it!
