Why Do I Ride A Motorcycle?
First of all, let me explain... Oh, really there's no point.
If I have to explain you wouldn't understand, but for those who do need an explanation, I'm going to attempt one here.
Listed below are the main ingredients which contribute to biking utopia...

The Freedom

In the words of The Mamas & The Papas...
You gotta go where you wanna go,
And do what you wanna do
With whoever you wanna do it with...
That's the freedom!
You gotta go where you wanna go,
And do what you wanna do
With whoever you wanna do it with...
That's the freedom!
The Danger
Let's face it, motorcycles are dangerous in today's environment. Anyone who thinks differently are fools.
I have known people who have lost their lives through riding a motorcycle and it is not amusing on any level.
Having said that, the danger is also a factor contributing to the buzz of motorcycling.

The Thrill
The Thrill and The 'Theory of Relativity' in Motorcycles
If you crash a motorcycle on a track doing 100 MPH, the chances are you will escape relatively unscathed.
However, if you crash a motorcycle on the road doing 100 MPH, the chances are high of never riding again (not in this world anyway). Whilst I don't intend doing 100 MPH on the roads of Britain (that would be illegal) going fast is part of the buzz of motorcycling and the sense of speed is relative.
70 MPH on the motorway appears to be relatively mundane as the lanes are wide and everyone is doing around the same speed, where as 30 MPH in a small confined area or in the woods seems fast. That's how speed is relative and that's where the thrill comes from.
In an environment where there is plenty of room and not much surrounding you, you need a faster speed to experience the thrill, whereas objects close to you when travelling slower appear to be passing you faster thus creating the sense of speed.
That's the THRILL!

Power and Performance
Twist The Wrist
Just a twist of the right wrist and... bye bye!
Power is what you feel when you twist the wrist but that's nothing without performance.
Once these blend together in harmony, then the thrill factor is enhanced and the smile widens!

The Wave - The Nod
How many times have you flashed someone on your travels to grant them priority and they give you a wave of acknowledgement and gratitude? Well that happens to almost every biker on every road, all the time.
'The Wave' or 'The Nod' is a sign of acknowledgement that you are in the same bubble (and only we know why).
It even happens on a sunny and warm day when there are a million bikers out and your neck is seizing with 'The Nod'.

Being Cool
Lets face it, you don't come much cooler than these...
If Only!!!

I'm more like these...
The Escape
Lets face it, breaking away from the norm of everyday life ranks up there in everybody's daydreams!
Leaving it all behind for a few hours is The Escape.
Getting away and feeling the freedom without a care in the world is the 'freedom' you experience when motorcycling.
Mundane chores never enter the head when riding the motorbike... ever!

The Adventure
For me, it's The Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors, Lake District, East Coast, West Coast, Northumberland, The Fens, The Pennines, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, North Wales, Scotland, France, Belgium... wherever the destination is, that's the adventure.
Tomorrow it will be somewhere different for a different reason at an undecided pace and routine.
I don't have to be anywhere at any time and will find what I find when I get there...THAT'S THE ADVENTURE!

Individuality
'There are many different reasons to ride a motorcycle and for many different requirements.
Everybody 'loves' their motorcycle and most add a personal touch to them.
For that reason, it is probable that no two motorcycles are identical. Some may come close, but still unique.
Harley Davidson owners pride themselves on individuality, and they stake a claim that no two Harley's are alike.
This is probably true and no-one can prove them wrong. The motorcycles are as diverse as the owners, and they probably have more custom parts to choose from than any other brand. Companies have sprung up making custom parts just for HD's... I know this is true for other manufacturers but more-so with Harleys.
If you want to express yourself through a bike... buy a Harley.
If you want a good ride... don't (ha ha)!

Statement
Motorcycles are all things to all people. Some owners love them, some not so.
Motorcyclists own them for any number of reasons.
Mine is a play thing. I don't 'need' it for anything else.
I use it for the freedom, adventure and pleasure of being anywhere for any reason at any time at my own pace and expectations.
Every motorcyclist has their own view and reason for owning one, and that doesn't matter to anyone else but them.
Whether you ride a Custom bike, Naked bike, Trail bike, Sports bike, Scooter or Moped, whether you are experienced, advanced, intermediate or a learner, whether you use it for pleasure, commuting to work or racing, we are all in the same bubble, and what an enjoyable bubble to be in. Its fantastic.
Especially when you can share your experiences with people like above.
